I have been meaning to write a blog about how great it is to be a Reiki Master as a Mom! My Reiki touch comes in handy all the time as a Mom… When my son falls off his bike and scrapes his knee, he says mom will you Reiki it, as tears stream down his face. I place my warm hands on his knee, within minutes the sting is gone, he’s back on his bike laughing, scrapes forgotten. Sure any mom can put their hands on a boo boo and offer comfort such as a kiss to a scrape, but there is just a little extra something that comes with mom’s Reiki touch!
When my son wakes up in the middle of the night with growing pains, sharp twinges down his ankles, he says “mom will you Reiki them?”, soon he is comforted and asleep again (I find nettle tea & calcium magnesium powder good for these, too) When he has a fever, I don’t use motrin or tylenol first thing, I start with Reiki, one hand on the back of his head and one hand on his forehead. Nine times out of ten, I don’t even need medicine, the fever is down within 5 minutes of holding and offering Reiki. I’ve saved a lot of money in my medicine cabinet.
The best is when his little DVD player is on the fritz, it says “cannot play this disc”, who knows why it does this, my son who had his heart set on watching his Superfriends says, “Mom will you Reiki my little player?”, so I place my hands on it, within 30 seconds it says loading, then it plays & he’s thrilled to be watching his cartoon. Sometimes I think how would I survive Motherhood without my Reiki Attunements, I thank my teacher Rose!
One day while Liam was playing in the backyard with a friend of his, she hurt her leg on a rock, she was sobbing, luckily her mom was there. Liam said have your mom Reiki it. I took Liam aside and said, “not all mom’s know how to do Reiki.” At 4 years old, Liam looked shocked, “You’re kidding right?” I said, “no it’s true, not all mommies do Reiki.” The look of shock on his face almost had me laughing…Then he said “I will know how to do Reiki before I ever become a dad.” Then his little friend asked if I would Reiki her leg, so I asked her mom permission and we did a few minutes of Reiki. I would never push Reiki on my child (or anyone) without asking their permission, I do want to make that clear. In the beginnning, I would say, “Would you like me to do some Reiki on your boo boo?” to my son. Then later he came to ask for it himself.

As I think of how every mom I know, needs massage, I am reminded of something one of my clients told me. She is a mom of 8 children, all fully grown and she is one of the most inspiring mothers I have ever met!
She said a good mom is a SELFISH mom, meaning you have got to take care of yourself, to be of any service to your children! Just like they tell you on the plane, you have to put on your oxygen mask before you save your child, you have to take care of yourself as a mother, so you can be there for your child!
May you have a fabulously selfish Mother’s Day!
